Tuning your oboe

- Check the accuracy of the tuning:
The cursor is in the middle: you are perfectly in tune!
The cursor is to the left: you are too low, you need to push the reed.
The cursor is to the right: you are too high, you need to pull the reed.
Too high: I pull the reed (the tube becomes longer, thus sounding lower).
Too low: I push the reed (the tube becomes shorter, thus sounding higher).
Before the start of a rehearsal in a symphonic orchestra or wind ensemble, all woodwinds from the wind instrument family in the orchestra tune to an A. Get into the habit of tuning your oboe to an A, even if you are playing alone:
